By agreeing these terms, You commit as a Customer to abide by these terms when using the Meejo service. If You do not understand or agree to these terms, do not use the Meejo service.
The purpose of the Meejo service is to provide bus departures and trips operated by different operators and to make the search of timetables and purchase tickets easier. Travel packages and so-called package tours offered by different operators can also be purchased from the Meejo service, which package tours may contain for example transportations to various events or combinations of transportation and an event ticket or transportation and accommodation (“Package tours”).
The bus departures, trips, tickets and Package tours currently available in the Meejo service depend on the operators involved in the service and may vary accordingly.
Information about the operators currently involved in the service can be found from www.meejo.fi/en/contact (“Operators” or separately “Operator”).
The “Service Provider” is Savonlinja Oy (business ID 0165069-7), Prikaatinkatu 3 A, 50100 Mikkeli, Finland.
1. The Meejo service and its use
1.3 In the customer profile according to paragraph 5 of a minor or otherwise legally incompetent person it must be stated that he/she has his/her guardian’s consent to travel, if such a consent is required in valid instructions and regulations, and he/she must be prepared to present a guardian’s written consent to travel when using a ticket. The legal guardian of a minor or otherwise legally incompetent person can however use the Meejo service on behalf of his/her dependent.
1.5 The Meejo service is mainly available at all times of the day and night, but service halts can from time to time occur in the service, about which the Service Provider is not required to separately inform the Customer beforehand. The Customer is responsible for Internet and data connections and devices required for using the Meejo service and the Service Provider is not responsible for their availability, usability or suitability for this purpose.
2. Fees, payments, paying and purchasing and exchanging tickets
2.1 Each ticket or Package tour purchased from the Meejo service authorizes You to travel one time at the time and route mentioned on the ticket or on the ticket of the Package tour. The price of the ticket is based on dynamic pricing and is thus not valid on routes or trips that differ from the route or trip marked on the ticket. A registered Customer can exchange a long-haul traffic travel ticket by logging into his/her own account in the Meejo service. A service fee according to the price list valid at any time can be collected for exchanging the travel ticket. A travel ticket cannot be returned, unless otherwise agreed.
2.2 A travel ticket authorizes You to a seat in the vehicle. The Customer must at the start of the trip present a paper or digital travel ticket or other confirmation of purchase provided by the Meejo service as a travel ticket to the driver or be prepared to confirm his/her identity with a photo ID.
2.3 The Service Provider and the Operators have the right to update the prices for tickets in the Meejo service and to collect possible service fees for the delivery of travel tickets. The ticket prices and possible service fees are specified at all times in the Meejo service in connection with the purchase of tickets.
2.4 A seat ticket for long-haul traffic can be redeemed in connection with the purchase of the travel ticket. A fee can be collected for the reservation. Seat tickets can be reserved for the five front rows of the vehicle and the reservation is only valid on the service marked on the ticket. A person travelling without a separate seat reservation must be prepared to give up the seat to someone who has made a seat reservation in the seats in the first five rows.
2.5. A local traffic ticket purchased through the mobile application authorizes You to travel within the local traffic in the zone of the city mentioned on the ticket during the validity period of the ticket. The validity period of the ticket can be checked in a time counter on the mobile ticket. Seasonal inter-city products must be activated within 7 days of the purchase.
2.6 An Package tour purchased through the online shop authorizes You to travel one time at the time mentioned on the ticket on the Package tour. An event transportation ticket purchased through the mobile application authorizes You to travel on the event transportation mentioned on the ticket during the validity period of the ticket.
2.7 The Customer is responsible for the validity of the information provided when purchasing a travel ticket. The Customer is responsible for problems with delivery of tickets failed due to incorrect information. The Customer is responsible for incorrect purchases.
2.8 Tickets authorizing You to a reduced price can be purchased from the Meejo service, but the Customer must be able to prove to the driver at the start of the trip his/her proofs authorizing the reduces price: a student identification, a pensioner’s identification or an ID card. If the Customer cannot prove his/her right to a reduced price, the Customer must pay the difference between the price of the reduced-price ticket and the real normal priced ticket.
2.10 The Service Provider is not responsible for operational problems in purchases and the shop caused by the payment service provider’s errors.
3. Cancellation policies and special terms for Package tours
3.1 In addition to these cancellation policies and special terms, the Package Travel Act (28.11.1994/1079) is applied to Package tours, if the Package tour in question fulfils the definition of a package trip according to Sections 1 and 2 of the Package Travel Act.
3.2 The Customer has a right to cancel an Package tour without any special reason as follows, unless otherwise agreed for the Package tour in question:
- at least 28 days before the commencement of the trip by paying the travel operator the office fees informed in advance. The office fees for a one-day trip are 5 euro/person, when the price of the trip is a maximum of 40 euro/person, and 10 euro/person, when the price of the trip is over 40 euro/person. For two-day trips or longer the office fees are 50 euro/person;
- later than 28 days, but at the latest 14 days before the commencement of the trip by paying 25 % of the price of the trip;
- later than 14 days, but at the latest 48 hours before the commencement of the trip by paying 50 % of the price of the trip; and
- if the trip is cancelled later than 48 hours before the commencement of the trip, the travel operator has a right to collect the entire price of the trip.
3.3 The cancellation fees for Package tours paid already in connection with the purchase or otherwise are withheld from the price of the Package tour to be returned to the Customer.
3.4 Possible exceptions and limitations to the cancellation fees mentioned above in point 3.2 regarding a particular Package tour are mentioned separately for each trip. In addition to the cancellation fees according to point 3.2, the Service Provider or the Operator in the event of cancellation always has a right to collect the costs of pre-booked theatre, concert, food or other corresponding tickets and reservations, if the Operator or the Service Provider providing the Package tour has already redeemed or committed to redeem the tickets in question without a right to cancel or return them at the time of the trip cancellation. The aim is to inform the Customer regarding each Package tour separately in the trip description.
3.5 If the Customer has to cancel his/her trip due to force majeure, a reasonable compensation is collected for pre-booked and confirmed services included in the Package tour. The compensation is determined in accordance with the true costs. The Customer shall inform the Service Provider about the cancellation without delay and the obstacle for going on the trip must be proved with a reliable statement, such as a medical certificate.
3.6 If the customer perceives an error with the Package tour, he/she must inform the Service Provider or their on-site representative about the error. A possible compensation claim shall be made in writing within two months from the end of the trip.
3.7 The Service Provider or the Operator has a right to cancel the trip, if the price of the trip has not been paid before the agreed due date or if there are not at least 21 or a separately agreed smaller minimum number of travelers participating in the Package tour. A cancellation is announced at the latest 7 days before the trip.
5. Customer profile, personal information and their processing
5.1 In the Meejo service the Customer can create a customer profile for himself/herself, the purpose of which is to make the acquisition of travel tickets quicker and easier. The creating of a customer profile is voluntary. The following terms are applied for the processing of personal information about Customers who have created a Customer profile and the Service Provider upholds in their operation the legislation regarding data protection, including the EU’s general data protection regulation, and the following terms regarding the processing of personal data:
i. Controller. The primary controller in the Meejo service is Savonlinja Oy, Prikaatinkatu 3 A, 50100 Mikkeli, tel. 020 141 5500 and email firstname.lastname@example.org. The person responsible for issues regarding the filing system is Ari Rajamäki, email@example.com.
ii. Joint controllers. Each Operator (insert a link to the Operators) is in the position of a controller as well, when trips are sold to the Operator in question.
iii. The parties in sections i and ii are collectively referred to as Controllers.
iv. Personal data processed. Only information about the Customer necessary for the use of the service are stored in the Customer profile, which are the Customer’s name, contact information (such as email address, postal address and telephone number) as well as payment reference information and possible identification of the payment transmitter. The data source is the Customer himself/herself.
v. The basis for and the purpose of the processing. The basis for the processing of personal data is the legitimate interest of the Controllers, when the information of the Customer profile is processed in the service to the extent necessary for the offering of the service, and the purpose of the processing is offering and developing the Meejo service. The controllers use the information of the Customer profile for statistical purposes. A usage log for a Customer logged into the service is stored regarding the use of the service in order to solve error situations and to ensure the service quality.
vi. Advertising and marketing. The information of the Customer profile can with the consent of the Customer be used for the Controller’s advertising and marketing purposes, and this consent can be revoked either in the service or by contacting the Service Provider.
vii. Storage of the data. The personal data stored in the Customer profile is stored for as long as the Customer is registered in the service, after which the data will be erased or anonymized in its entirety.
viii. The rights of the data subject. The Customer can inspect the information in his/her own Customer profile in the service and receive a copy of the information by request. The Customer has a right to request the correction of inaccurate personal data, and it is possible to correct the data in the service. The Customer can also request the removing of the Customer profile and the right to be forgotten. In connection with the requests the Customer must be prepared to prove his/her identity. The requests must be directed to the party according to point i.
ix. Protection. The Controllers, for their part and their own role, are responsible for implementing appropriate and at all times up-to-date technical and organizational measures for the security of the service, such as keeping the servers in an environment protected by firewalls and limiting the processing of personal data to such people, who due to their tasks and job description need to process the data.
x. Subcontractors. The Controllers can use subcontractors and the services offered by third parties for delivering the service. The Operators, whose travel tickets, Package tours or other trips are possible to obtain through the service, have the right to process and have access to such information in the Customer profile which are necessary to carry out the trips offered by the Controllers.
xi. Transfer of personal data. The personal data stored in the Customer profile can be transferred in the service during the delivery and offering of the service outside of the EU and EEA area, or they can be processed from outside of the EU and EEA area, whereby the Service Provider ensures that it has valid standard terms or contracts to be applied to the transfer of personal data according to the current legislation regarding data protection.
xv. Complains. If the Customer has a reason to complain about the processing of personal data, the Customer can contact the person mentioned in point i. The Customer always has the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority. More information is available at https://tietosuoja.fi/en/home.
5.1 are applied, where applicable, also to travel ticket purchases made without a Customer profile as specified herein:
i. Necessary information for delivering the service and for problem situations: name, telephone number and email address, are collected from the customer when making purchases or calls for bids without a Customer profile. The Customer thus gives the permission for the service to store and handle the Customer’s personal data in the extent required for offering the service, and so that the name, above-mentioned contact information, the payment sum, payment reference and a possible identification of the payment transmitter are stored, and they are handled as needed in the service. Our payment service provider Paytrail Oyj collects in connection with the payment transaction the IP address, payment method and time of the payment https://www.paytrail.com/tietosuojaseloste-paytrailin-maksupalvelu.
ii. Personal data given without creating a Customer profile are processed and stored over a time necessary for the delivery of the service and at the most (12) months after the delivery of each service, if the Customer has not given a separate consent for advertising and marketing purposes and this consent can be revoked by informing the Service Provider.
6. Intellectual property rights
The Meejo service contains intellectual property rights of the Service Provider and its contract partners. All trademarks, logos, inventions, patents, utility models, models, technical models, commercial, technical and economic knowledge and works, written and other materials related to the service or offering thereof, works and results and the rights related to them shall remain in the possession of the Service Provider and its contract partners. The Customer is allowed to utilize the intellectual property rights necessary for the delivery of the Meejo service only to the extent necessarily required for the use of the service.
7. Conflicts and damages
7.1. Luggage. The Customer shall label the luggage. In the event of disappearance and damage of the luggage, the liability of the Service Provider and each Operator shall be limited so that we compensate a maximum of EUR 20 per kilogram of gross weight missing (Road Haulage Contracts Act No. 345 of 23 March 1979 Section 32).
7.2. The Service Provider and each Operator reserves a right to delays and cancellations in cases of Force Majeure (exceptional circumstances). The Operator is not alone in the traffic, thus cannot alone have an influence on the fluency of the traffic. Traffic situations may cause the possible delay.
7.3. It is the objective of each Operator that the connections of the Customer succeed. Transfer connections shall be ensured before the booking of the trip or before the commencement of the trip. The Operator will give further information about transfer connections. The Service Provider and each Operator are liable for connections, that can be found from the timetable of the Meejo service and that are informed there as transfer connections. The Operator shall be performing at least the other connection of these transfer connections. Each Operator shall ensure that it is in contact with the company operating the transfer connection, if needed, so that they would wait for the possibly delayed departure. The Customer should acknowledge that the connections of other forms of public transportation unfortunately may not always wait for the possibly delayed bus departures.
7.4. In the event that the Customer has made its own travel plan by combining different departures, the Operator shall not be liable for the interrupted connections nor the additional costs caused due to this. In these cases, the Customer shall before the trip (or before booking the trip) ensure the functionality of the connection. The driver must always be informed about the connection before the commencement of the trip. Should there occur any conflicts, the Operator shall provide follow-up instructions and possible permission to use compensatory transportation.
7.5. Passenger shall for its own part contribute to limit the damage and immediately contact the bus company in cases of conflict. The services the Customer has on its own initiative ordered are in cases of conflict in the Customer’s own risk and the Customer shall be liable for the costs caused due to connections the Customer has ordered. We hope that our Customers will acknowledge this when planning a trip that includes a connection.
7.6. In matters related to foreign traveling the Customer shall check the required travel documents in time before the trip. Seat reservation is mandatory. The costs caused due to Customer’s inadequate travel documents shall be in the Customer’s own risk and reimbursement can be claimed from the Customer subsequently due to the possible penalty payments caused to the Operator.
8. Other terms
8.1 The Service Provider utilizes subcontractors for producing the Meejo service and it can utilize a subcontractor for delivering the Meejo service. The responsibility of the Service Provider to the Customer for offering the Meejo service is determined according to this contract and valid mandatory law.
8.3. The Service Provider has the right to update these terms from time to time. The updated terms shall be made available for the Customer.
8.4 The Finnish law is applied to the Meejo service and its use. Disputes and disagreements related to the Meejo service are resolved in Finland and according to Finnish law in the District court of the defendant’s domicile, unless otherwise required by mandatory law.
